Welcome to the"Winch House Backyard Shops"

 

Winch House Backyard Shops was created by Patterson Block Inc. in spring of 2009. It was their old cement storage shed, which housed the winch. Over the winter of 2008 the staff set out to create a step back in history, by putting in a exhibit of the winch.

The Winch House Backyard Shops feature backyard living including: A birding shop, rocks & fossils, pavers, retaining walls and statuary. The Winch House circa 1919 is an original building with winch from the Locast Spring Colliery that was one of the many abandoned mines of the Pennsylvania Coal region. See the winch machine that pulled the loaded coal cars from down in the mine to the surface and then sent back to be loaded again. Now fully restored you can tour the Winch House Backyard Shops and see the many historical pictures and artifacts of the mining days.
